Chandigarh Club Ltd is supposed to be one of the better places to go spend time in the city beautiful. And today I went there with my parents. Looked like it was a wrong time to visit the club when we saw big banners of a popular liquor brand promoting themselves through a stage show featuring some popular girl band (no it was not Viva, and I had never heard of the name). The show was to be hosted by MTV VJ Mini Mathur. That really scared me off…

And well, it turned out to be pretty much ok. It’s a rather cheap place to go out and have fun. Food is cheap and pretty decent. Liquor is a bit costly but considering the hype the place has got, it’s not a bad deal. We had snacks out in the open waiting for the program to start which did not until the dinner time. Looking at the crowd around us (small groups of people busy drinking); we decided to have dinner in the restaurant instead of the buffet in the open. Unfortunately, Mini Mathur arrived just as we started having our dinner and if you have seen here on TV, you would know that she was louder than any other thing within 100 miles of the club. Even with the music at full blast, she managed to yell at the top of her voice making our dinner a pain! And then the remixes by the supposedly very popular girl band got so noisy, the glass windows of the restaurant started making noises on their own. It was pretty clear that we visited the place on a wrong day…

Somehow we had our dinner, all the time hearing the MTV VJ at the top of her voice expecting some real responses from the crowd which unfortunately she did not receive. When we came out, she asked some young couples in the crowd to come forward on the dance floor to set it on fire… but the best she could get was one middle aged uncle jee with auntie jee coming on the dance floor with their 4 yrs old kid Monty. Must be terrible being the host of such a party…

Overall it was a nice evening spent at a fine place messed up by a mistimed visit to the club. I won’t mind giving another go to this popular spot for people living in the city of Chandigarh.
