India Gate
About India Gate
Designed by Lutyens, India Gate was built in 1931 in memory of 90,000 soldiers of the Indian Army who died in World War I. Formerly known as All India War Memorial. Amar Jawan Jyoti was lit in 1971 to honor the Immortal soldiers. Come night and with it follow the hordes of tourists wanting to glimpse the floodlit monument and fountains around it. Sprawling lawns around the monument play host to both the young and the old, throughout the evening, and well into the night.
